How to help the dog in the heat?
Summer is good, especially when there is a lake or a river nearby. But in big cities it is more difficult to endure the heat, and not only we suffer from it, but also pets. In the summer, many dogs become lethargic, lose their appetite, quickly get tired on walks, suffer from shortness of breath, etc. How to save a dog from the heat and give it a carefree summer? We read about it in our article.
We choose time for walks
Walk the dog in the morning or in the evening. While it’s cool outside, you can play active games, work out teams and get the most out of your walk.
Avoid direct sunlight
For walks, choose parks, courtyards and public gardens with saving shadow.
Adjust the intensity of the load
Your pet is not Rocky or Terminator, and he doesn’t have to work for wear. If it is hot outside and the dog is tired and suffering from stuffiness, do not force it to conquer obstacles. It is better to take in the shade and drink water.
Provide access to drinking water
At home, the pet should always have access to fresh drinking water. But in the summer, water (and a compact bowl for it) should also be taken on walks. As soon as you see that the dog is hot, give it a drink.
How to help the dog in the heat?
Keeping the right diet
The quality of feeding lays its mark on a lot. Even on how the dog tolerates heat. Do not overfeed pet and do not give him fatty foods. To cope with this diet, the body spends a huge amount of energy, and the dog becomes sluggish. Accordingly, it is more difficult for her to carry the heat.
No sweltering spaces!
If your apartment is very hot, and open windows do not help, it’s time to think about air conditioning. While you are working in a cool office, your pet is at home in the heat of the moment, and this is still a test!
Do not leave the dog in the car
Even if you need to leave only 5 minutes, do not leave the dog alone in the car. In the heat, the car warms up very quickly, and the dog can become ill. Overheating with the accompanying symptoms in the form of vomiting, etc., has not yet benefited anyone.
By the way, in some countries, passers-by have the right to break the glass of a car if a dog is locked in it. There is something to think about!
Cool with water
To cool the dog a little in the heat, moisten the paws, tummy and neck with cool water. But the head must remain inviolable: otherwise you can provoke a sunstroke.
Protect skin and coat from UV rays and drying out.
Dogs have sensitive skin. Therefore, even with strong heat, it is not recommended to cut pets with medium and long hair. The shorter the coat, the higher the chance of sunburn.
To protect your skin and hair from dryness and burnout, in summer, wash your dog with special protective agents (for example, shampoos and conditioners of the ISB Black Passion line). Before walking the skin of hairless dogs, be sure to apply a protective cream with UV filters. These actions will help protect the pet from the harmful effects of sunlight and preserve the health and beauty of the skin and coat.
Get out on nature
Trips to nature with walks and swimming – the dream of many dogs. The more often you take the pet away from the city bustle – the happier it will be. But do not forget about safety rules! Be sure to vaccinate your pet and treat it for parasites.
