How to care for hairless dogs?
Itai Crested, American Hairless Terrier, Mexican Hairless Dog, Peruvian Inca Orchid – these breeds amaze with their elegance and exoticism. If you dream of a dog, but are afraid of problems with moulting, then here are your ideal pets! On the one hand, care for hairless dogs is simple: they do not need grooming and regular combing. But on the other hand, the absence of wool makes the skin defenseless and makes its additions to the content. On the peculiarities of care for bare dogs let’s talk in our article.
Care for bare dogs is different from the standard. We list the main points.
1. Adjust to the weather!
Hairless dogs would be just happy in the shadow of the jungle somewhere in Bali. But if you approach their content responsibly, then in Russia they will be no worse! The main thing is to adapt to the season.
In the cold season, “naked” dogs cannot do without special warming clothes and shoes. They must be made of high-quality, safe materials and fit to size.
On hot days, you need to ensure that the dog is not in direct sunlight, and before going for a walk, apply a special anti-tanning agent on its skin. This will help protect sensitive skin from burns and dryness.
2. Bathe more often!
Bare skin becomes dirty more quickly: dust and skin secretion accumulates on it. Therefore, bathing hairless dogs need more often, about 2 times a week. To do this, use special shampoos that are suitable for sensitive bare skin and frequent use. Unsuitable shampoos for dogs, and especially human means, in no case be used. They will lead to dryness, flaking and dermatitis.

3. We monitor daily skin cleanliness.
Along with bathing, the skin of a hairless dog should be regularly cleaned with a damp cloth. Particular attention should be paid to skin folds: they accumulate the most contamination and secretion. Sometimes crusts form in folds. They can not be scraped off. It is enough to apply a moisturizer on them (for example, a children’s cream), let it soak in and in a few minutes remove the crusts with a napkin.
4. Fight with black dots
Not only people suffer from acne, but also hairless pets. Blackheads and eels appear due to clogged pores. Usually, regular washing and proper nutrition prevent their appearance, but there are exceptions.
By themselves, acne does not harm the health of the dog, but spoil its appearance. If there are a lot of them, then it is better to contact a specialist for removal. Individual acne can be removed on their own, at home. To do this, soak the spot of the pimple with Vetericyn spray (antiseptic), gently squeeze it out and again treat the skin with spray. Also, when blocking the pores, it is recommended to peel using special exfoliating gels (for example, ISB Mineral Red Derma Exrteme).
5. We follow the condition of the ears and eyes.
Due to the lack of wool (and therefore, protection from pollution), dogs often get dirty eyes and ears. Their condition should be monitored regularly and cleaned with a special soft lotion (for example, ISB Traditional Line Clean) as it gets dirty. Follow the application instructions and always use a clean cotton swab for each eye and ear.

6. Eat right!
Hairless pets spend more energy to keep warm. Therefore, they eat much more often. It is important to ensure that the dog’s diet is of high quality and balanced, and not to forget about physical activity. Proper nutrition and active lifestyle – is the key to health. Trite, but true.
This is the main features of care for hairless pets. And do not forget about the main thing: only your attention and love can make a dog truly happy!
Please your pets, for them it is vital!
