Bed for the dog: why is she?
We are happy to choose comfortable beds, cushions and houses for decorative dogs, since we cannot imagine a tiny pet sleeping in the corridor on a rug. But what about the representatives of medium and large breeds? Do all dogs need beds? Perhaps some pets will be much more comfortable on a cool floor? Let’s talk about it in our article.
And immediately begin with the destruction of the main stereotype. Many ascetic dog owners believe that the beds – this is an excess, invented for decorative pets. Whereas innate hunters, watchmen and fighters feel quite comfortable in harsh conditions, i.e. lying right on the bare floor. However, dog beds, first of all, are not designed for the convenience of pets (as many believe), but to maintain their health, strengthen the immune system and prevent a number of diseases.
In the future, the same ascetic owner will start to wonder where his arthrosis has developed from his strong four-legged friend and why large corns have formed on his elbows. But this is a direct consequence of the wrong conditions of detention. Yes, a dog can sleep for several years on a thin rug in the corridor or on a cold floor altogether, and you will not notice any trouble until she has problems with her joints or develops cystitis. As you know, the disease is easier to prevent than to cure, and it will be very disappointing if, due to an oversight of the owners, the pet’s health is significantly undermined. In addition, quality treatment requires serious material costs. Therefore, when organizing a dog’s resting place and shaping the conditions for keeping and caring for it as a whole, once again think about what consequences your desire to save can turn into.
Particularly relevant is the issue of arranging a place for a dog in the autumn months, when the house has not yet turned on the heating, and drafts are frequent guests. Over the fall winter will come, and in the cold months the dog will need strong immunity in order to withstand colds and other diseases. Yes, of course, street dogs and wild ancestors of dogs in nature perfectly cost without beds, but do not forget that they are accustomed to harsh living conditions since childhood, moreover, their lifespan is significantly less than that of pets. Housing conditions impose their mark on the body, and the unfavorable ecology of large cities adversely affects not only us, but also our four-legged friends. That is why it is so important to take into account the needs of a domestic dog when it comes to domestic matters, and not to identify them with wild relatives.
So, the beds are necessary for all, even the largest dogs, as they are:
protect the dog from drafts and, consequently, colds;
prevent diseases of the musculoskeletal system and joints, the most common of which are arthrosis;
prevent the formation of ulnar calluses, which will inevitably appear in a dog sleeping on a bare floor or a thin rug;
and lastly, the bed is the peace, comfort and quality rest of your dog, which she undoubtedly deserves.
How to choose a suitable bed?
In any modern pet store you will find a wide range of various stove benches for both miniature and medium to large dogs. When making a choice in favor of a particular model, pay attention to the quality of the material and seams, as well as the permissibility of machine wash. Of course, the stove bench will get dirty, and its condition will need to be monitored. Machine wash in this regard will significantly simplify the task and allow you to save time.
The quality of the material depends on how long the bed will last and how comfortable it will be for your pet. If the dog is prone to allergies, choose for it only models made of hypoallergenic material.
The shape of the bed depends on the size and individual preferences of your pet. Observe what position your dog most often sleeps in? If she sleeps curled up, she will be very comfortable on a round or oval bench. If the pet sleeps stretched out at full length, it is more suitable for him a rectangular couch.
Many pets like loungers with bumpers. It is convenient to put a muzzle on the sides. In addition, it is as if a dog is dipped into such a stool, it is very comfortable and warm in it, because the bumpers protect from drafts.
For puppies recently torn from their mothers, ultrasoft double beds are ideal. The soft, pleasant surface and large sides create comfortable conditions for the little ones and allow them to feel warm and safe, as if they are near the mother. These beds significantly reduce stress and facilitate the adaptation of puppies to a new independent life.
Miniature dogs, especially representatives of hairless breeds, simply adore the cot-lodges. Houses provide maximum heat retention and become a reliable mink for fragile pets.
