What are dog training courses?

A trained dog is not only a reason for pride, but also a guarantee of safety for both the pet and all those around him. But that’s not all. For centuries, people have selected dogs with various inclinations and abilities – they turned out to be different breeds, which can be divided according to the functional into shepherd’s, hunting (cops, hounds), guard, service and companion dogs. These dogs, like people, are required to realize their abilities in order to be happy. And the correctly chosen method of training allows you to discover and develop their natural talents. This, you see, is much nicer and more useful than raising a “sofa” pet.
Dressura can be practiced independently. But this requires experience and a lot of time, especially when it comes to medium and large breeds. In any case, the result of “home” workouts loses to specialized courses. After all, if you are not a professional, it is difficult to create a really competent program and take into account the behavioral features of your dog specifically. That is why special courses are in such demand. In our article we will talk about the five most popular programs.
1. early
OKD is a general course, the Russian system of dog training. It includes the dog’s training in norms of behavior, basic commands (“to me”, “near”, “lie down”, “sit”, etc.), as well as some special disciplines, such as aportirovka and running with obstacles. In addition, the course allows you to improve the physical shape of the dog.
Training takes place on the site, with the participation of the owner, individually or in a group. Training can begin with 3.5 months: this will avoid problems with the behavior of the puppy. But for exams and competitions in early dog is allowed about a year. You can take an exam on early education only in Russia.

2. VN or UGS
These two courses can be combined into one point, since in fact they are analogs.
VN is a German companion dog breeding program. The course includes in-depth training for teams of general obedience and establishing a host-dog contact. Unlike early, the passage of obstacles and aportirovki here you will not find, but the program will teach the management of the pet on the site or in the city. Exam on VN can be passed in many countries.
GHS stands for “guided urban dog.” The course has a minimum of entertainment and maximum obedience. Thanks to the program, the dog learns to behave properly on a walk: do not pull the leash, do not pick up food from the ground, do not bark at passers-by, do not be afraid of noise, etc. An interesting feature is that there are no regulatory commands in the course. It is possible to use both generally accepted commands and copyright (without fanaticism, they must be censored). The course is not officially accepted by the Russian Cynological Federation, so if you plan to send your dog for exams at RKF, it is better to choose another program. Training and examinations in the course are carried out by canine clubs.
Both programs are an alternative to early adopters with an emphasis on managing a dog in all situations, and not only in a closed area (as in the general course). Designed for dogs on average from 5-6 months.
3. Obidiens
International Dog Obedience Program, especially popular in America and Europe. The course is designed to train companion dogs. The difficulty of this discipline lies in teaching the dog to quickly and flawlessly carry out commands given without voice and / or at a distance.
The main feature of the course is unusual competitions. In the process involved several dogs. They compete in who performs the commands better and faster. Competitions and championships in obedience are held all over the world.
The course is designed for dogs aged 6 months.
4. Agility
This is the favorite course of most dogs and their owners! English program aimed at both learning and entertainment.
In the classroom, the owners and their pets learn to go along the obstacle course, and without a collar, a leash, and even treats. No encouragement or contact in the way of obstacles is inadmissible.
The program develops dexterity, concentration, reaction, improves physical fitness, and most importantly – teaches teamwork. Having mastered the agility, the owner and the dog perfectly understand each other and have no problems with obedience.
According to many, Agility is not training, but a lifestyle, a real and very exciting sport for both the dog and its owner!
This discipline is popular all over the world. Every year a huge number of competitions are held on it. Age for agility does not matter. The sooner a puppy starts learning, the more chances he has to become a champion!
